Pão de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread) is a traditional Brazilian snack that I discovered when I first went to a Churrascaria (Brazilian BBQ restaurant) back in college. If you have never been to one, they are high end restaurants (typically all you can eat) with extensive salad bars containing traditional Brazilian dishes and with “gauchos” walking around serving fresh grilled meats sliced right at your table. As a broke college student, I was amazed at the abundance and deliciousness of the food! Especially since I wasn’t paying for it myself (I went with my fellow executive board members of Student Account Society for our end of the year celebration).
Anyway, being the food copycat minded person I am, I decided to try making pão de queijo myself using high quality ingredients. It turned out pretty easy and oh so delicious, so I started making them occasionally for parties and discovered what a crowd pleaser they were! So now I’m passing on this wonderfully gooey and crunchy snack/appetizer to you so your friends and family can enjoy it too! I’m selling them uncooked since they are best fresh out of the oven.
All you’ll need to do is put them on a baking sheet and bake them at 400 for 25-30 minutes (no thawing necessary) until they’re golden and puffy. Alternatively, you can bake them at a lower temperature for longer time, which I have done if I have other things baking in the oven and want to maximize oven space. Serve hot and enjoy!
